Energy Justice Summer & Bucket Brigade Training August 3-5

Hey Friends,
Saturday - we have a group of college students coming to Perry (led by Jason Misner, Climate Action organizer), and we are taking them on the "toxic tour", - the trip they'll never forget! (you are welcome to come too!)

Then from 2-5 on Saturday, we will have a very special thing happen in Perry: Bucket Brigade training to show us how to capture and measure air pollution. You need to be there! Anyone interested in air pollution will enjoy and benefit from this excellent training. We hope to establish a Bucket Brigade in Perry...

FLORIDA FOR PEACE MEMBER GROUPS Scheduled to meet with Florida’s Senior Senator

11:00AM – August 7, 2007 – Kissimmee, Florida

A coalition of Florida peace and social action groups joined forces in May, 2007 to begin a state-wide campaign. Their goal was to ask for meetings with Senator Bill Nelson, Florida’s senior senator, in every district where he has an office.

Senator Nelson has agreed to meet with 10 Florida For Peace members in Kissimmee, Florida at 11:00AM on August 7, 2007. Request for meetings in additional Florida locations will be made at this meeting. “We feel that it is his responsibility to meet with us rather than having his constituents drive all over the state to meet him” said Florida For Peace co-founder Deidra Lynch. Request for Town Hall meeting dates around the state will also be requested.

Florida For Peace member groups include: CODEPINK, Military Families Speak Out/Florida, Veterans for Peace, Vietnam Veterans for Peace, Environmental and Peace Education Center, Tallahassee Network for Justice and Peace, Food Not Bombs, Democracy For America and others...

Finally! After six years the Tally Democrat reports on TNJP's Eternal Peace Vigil Against Iraq War. The vigils in Tallahassee started BEFORE the bombing and invasion of Afghanistan in the early fall of 2001. Our local corporate media gets a clue at last (article below)...

Perennial protesters: Group protests Iraq war twice a week at Capitol By Tabitha Yang July 30, 2007
Tom Baxter, 60, plans to stand outside the Capitol and protest the war until it's over or until he dies, whichever comes first. On Sunday afternoon, he was sitting in a lawn chair near Monroe Street and Apalachee Parkway, holding an anti-war sign and wearing a baseball cap with "Vietnam Veterans Against the War" emblazoned across the front. Over the course of the six years he's been protesting, he said public support for the protesters has risen. He thinks this is because people are not so hopeful about the war's outcome.

"Back in May of '03, people were saying, 'We won! We won!' ” Baxter said. "Nobody says that anymore."...

The Big Bend Farmworker Alliance will be hosting a workshop "Welcoming the Stranger: Creating a Support Network for Immigrants in Our Community" at St. Eugene's Catholic Chapel on Monday, August 13 at 7:00PM.

The presentation will focus on getting to know the local immigrant community and the issues that affect their lives. The presentation will be a great opportunity to connect with members of the local immigrant community and learn about the issues they face. The workshop will also be the beginning of a community conversation about how we can make Tallahassee a community that is welcoming to immigrants, and prepared to support immigrant families in the case of immigration raids like those that happened in New Bedford, MA this spring...

Hello everyone,

I just returned from the United States Social Forum in Atlanta with some new found insights, ideas, and motivation. The burning question for me in recent days has been " If 70-80% of us oppose this war then why do >1% ever actively work toward it's end". I attended several workshops with this being an underlying theme and feel I finally have a bit of a handle on the reasons.

A few days ago I came up with an idea to hold an event at the Civic Center that has literally something for everyone, is very enjoyable, and holds the possibility of becoming a cohesive community action. I also have ideas on funding the event. It has to be on a Sunday preferably prior to the Petreaus report and before the next supplemental funding comes up in Congress so; Sept 9th is a Sunday following a day that both football teams have home games (out-a-towners will be here as well) and the Center hasn't been booked for that day yet. Consequently TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!!...

This Saturday, 7/7/07, two billion people around the world will rally for a solution to the climate crisis (Live Earth - Party for the Planet). They'll gather at concerts on seven continents and at over 6,000 parties from Alabama to Zimbabwe. And there's a party right near you in Tallahassee.

You don't want to miss it! Al Gore put the entire night together, and he'll be front and center. You'll be barbequeing and pot-lucking with progressive friends and neighbors, and all eight Democratic presidential candidates will join us to share their visions for a climate-crisis-free, clean-energy world.

It's going to be one amazing night. Can you join the world's biggest party this Saturday in Patchogue?...
